Magenta Living celebrates 18 years of apprenticeships

Magenta Living has welcomed 107 apprentices over the last 18 years, and our focus is on supporting our apprentices to build skills for the future.

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week and across our social media channels we've been recognising the value apprentices bring, sharing their unique journey's and celebrating their hard work and successes.

We'd like you to meet Liam Padmore, who's shared his story about going from an Apprentice Electrician to a Rising Star Future Leader at Magenta Living…

‘I had a brief understanding of electricals as I’d already completed my Level 2 and 3 qualifications at Wirral Met College, but I wanted to take my learning to the next level, so I looked into Apprenticeships. After completing my work experience and passing my interview, I started as an Apprentice Electrician at Magenta Living when I was 18.

'During my four year apprenticeship, I gained essential on-the-job skills and obtained all my required qualifications including my ‘Wiring Regulations’ and ‘ECS Card’ but I would say that some of my biggest learnings came from the support of my colleagues and learning from their experiences.

'My main highlight would be completing my AM2 examination, a 3 day practical exam. I was very nervous as the thought of being watched the whole time was very intimidating, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t lose some sleep over this exam. However I smashed it and got a distinction first time round - which I’m very proud of.

'Since completing my apprenticeship, I successfully applied for our Rising Star’s Future Leaders programme, as my drive is to continue developing myself, my skills and one day step into a supervisory role. This programme will help me with development and growth, but it will also support me to enhance the experience and service myself and Magenta Living can offer to our customers. I would encourage anyone thinking about an apprenticeship to go for it, I've never looked back!’

Joanne Francom, our People Director said ‘Apprentices are essential to the future success of Magenta Living. When it comes to hiring apprentices, we’re looking for a commitment to provide great services to our customers. We take great care and attention to create the right learning environment and mentoring for our apprentices so they can confidently learn ‘The Magenta Way’ and provide the best customer experience possible. We make a significant investment each year towards continued professional development for colleagues, focused on developing future skills and empowering innovation’.

We work in partnership with Wirral Metropolitan College to provide ongoing support and opportunities for their students. Our partnership is founded on our shared commitment towards ‘Community’, and in supporting local people to develop essential skills for the future and excel in their chosen career.

Paul Crawford, Head of Construction at Wirral Metropolitan College said ‘Magenta Living’s commitment to our partnership is pivotal to the development of our students skillsets. Our combined approach to learning in a college environment and work experience with Magenta Living, takes learning to another level. Our successful partnership makes learning enjoyable and offers life changing experiences to local people across the Wirral.’
