Eight new homes emerge on Brook Street, Birkenhead

What was once an empty space on Brook Street is now transforming before our eyes as the walls of eight new homes have been lifted into place. This marks a significant milestone in our joint development with Starship Group, following the foundation work completed in late 2024. We’re excited to see these energy-efficient homes ready for completion by summer 2025.

This week, representatives from Magenta Living and Starship Group gathered at the site to discuss the next steps. It’s inspiring to see new life being breathed into a site that has been vacant for over thirteen years.

These new homes are situated on the former site of the Brooklands high-rise, a local landmark from its construction in 1962 until its demolition in 2011. Our £1.9 million investment in this project is the third time we’ve partnered with Starship. By building modular homes, we’ve been able to speed up construction and minimise disruption to the community, as most of the build is completed off-site in Starship’s Wallasey factory.

Designed to be affordable and energy-efficient, these homes boast an EPC A rating, exceeding the government’s target for all social homes to achieve an EPC C rating by 2030. This aligns perfectly with our goal to build 1,000 new homes by the same year.

Debi Marriott-Lavery, our CEO, says, “This development is a bold step forward for Magenta Living. We are embracing new construction methods to deliver homes with lower bills and reduced maintenance needs, providing great places for people to live and fostering community regeneration.”

Chris Dodd, Director at Starship, adds, “We are delighted to be working with Magenta for the third time on this exciting development. This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how innovative construction methods can create affordable, high-quality homes.”

Funding for this project is partially provided by Homes England’s Affordable Homes Programme.
